I have taught Kindergarten, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, and 5th Grade. I am certified K-6th grade. I also taught advanced math in a GED/HiSet program. I currently teach ESOL/CIVICS for an Adult School. My teaching philosophy starts out with essentialism which believes in a strong core curriculum and high academic standards. I believe it is important to have a strong foundation on which to build upon. After ensuring a strong foundation I tend to lean more towards progressivism. I believe students should be taught what is relevant today while becoming more independent learners, by utilizing problem solving skills and critical thinking. I like to make learning an experience. I typically try to relate certain problems or topics to the child's actual life to make it easier for them to learn. I feel as if the best way to learn is to have fun. I am an honors high school student and I have never made anything below a B in any class. During my time at college, I created a mentoring committee for underclassman that focused on business related items and school curriculum. As I spent most of my time in groups studying, I learned that I was very good at explaining principles and material, regardless of subject matter. I am patient, warm, and pleasant. What I do is not so much teach the material as a way to learn the material. My methods are to understand the subject matter the students are weak on and learn it with them, displaying that it takes time learning anything and most of the work in understanding subjects are difficult.
