If "Math" is a nightmare, brace yourself for a sweetdream.

I have tutored math very often and over the course of helping others, I've learned the British ways of solving a math problem is extremely easy while the American ways are a bit confusing for the students. I could remember a day while working at Dollar Tree HQ in the Finance Department, a math problem arises and it took my supervisor 12 minutes while I solved it in 45 seconds. We arrived at the same answer however, time is of the essence.
Breaking step down till a layman can understand and I love to be interrupted with questions.

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching is my passion. Throughout grade school and college, I have often found myself doing some form of teaching. In middle and high school, my teachers would ask me to help other students who were not grasping the material by peer tutoring. In college, I chose to dedicate a few hours a week to assist students with applied mathematics through both paid and volunteer services. Also, during the seasonal school breaks I substitute at local elementary and middle schools which exposes me to handling classroom duties. With all of these experiences, it is easy to see that teaching comes naturally. More importantly, I am competent in applied math and science and can skillfully communicate these complex concepts to other people. As a graduating Electronics Engineering student, I have successfully passed all my math classes that range from Calculus I to Probability and Statistics. Along wi ... read more

Over the past five years I have worked as a Teacher/Instructor both the the legal field and in the public school setting with students diagnosed as ED and LD as well as being displaced from the normal public school setting. Even though my academic degrees are in the legal field I have stayed current in areas of Reading and Math from Basic Algebra to Geometry.
I believe that a student who lacks the basic fundamental skills in reading and mathematics will struggle to stay focused in class and continually be disruptive and ultimately stop attending school. My teaching style is consistently accommodating especially to these types of students. I like to show students that I am there for them and there isn't anything through my patience and sincerity they cannot learn.

As an graduate of Elizabeth City State University, I have done exceptionally well. I learned so much through tutoring other students. When I tutored in the Business Department for Accounting and Finance classes, I gave some students hope, and some students even looked up to me. That they made me feel great and it really made me enjoy what I did because I helped a lot of the students turn the weaknesses into strengths.
I feel as though every child can achieve the impossible, and with the help of someone giving them the attention that they deserve and need, they will feel better about themselves as well. I want to get a child in a learning mood where they'll want to go to school everyday and learn something. I want to be an inspiration to them or a role model or someone they can look up to for advice so that they can follow in my footsteps as far as finishing high school and continui ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

A good teacher encourages students to think and analyze and not to accept the information passively. With this objective in mind, I combine class room teaching with interactive sessions. The learning styles and capabilities of the students vary. So I incorporate different methods of teaching. It is important that the students understand the concepts and principles thoroughly.I want the students to solve some of the problems while they are with me to make sure that they have grasped the principles.I prefer to create an environment that motivates the students. I have a special skill in dealing with students who have attention deficiency.I am patient and considerate and I will be happy to offer extra attention and coaching to slow learners.

I have worked for Norfolk City Public Schools and Virginia Beach City Public Schools as a substitute teacher for approximately six years. During that period I performed a multitude of jobs including long term substitute positions, teaching high school physics, and performed tasks far beyond the parameters of substitute job specifications. This current school year I was requested by the school improvement specialist, to work as the primary SOL tutor for Earth Science. I also worked for many years in the AVID program as a site tutor aiding in introducing new tutors to the procedures and techniques that would make them most productive as a tutor, while integrating the AVID program to the site.
