My comments on tutoring Special Education : I am an EC TA in a self-contained AU classroom and I am still trying to work on my Masters in Special Education.

I like to get on the child's level and teach that way. I like to ask the children what their best way is to learn and what are some of their favorite things are so I can incorporate them into the lesson.
I have been working with Elementary children for over 10 years now. I have helped all ages with homework, sports, and life skills (current job now as EC TA). I also have been coaching for the past five years in cheerleading and soccer, but in different age groups. I have been in the school system for the past year in a half and have worked on phonics, math, science, and life and social skills with AU students.

I love working with children. I believe that all children can learn, but each child learns in a different way. In order to help a student, you must find out how they learn. You also must find their passion. With this information (passion and learning style), you can help any student succeed. Many of my students have been considered as slow, but once I began working with them, I realized that they just lacked the basic skills. This past year, all of my students have increased at least one grade level in reading and math. Many have achieved grade level performance.
I am always driven to do my very best. This has been indicated as I earned mostly A's in all subjects. I have worked in the business world in marketing and I know the value of education. I have a Masters Degree in Teaching. I am currently an EC teacher. I am shocked at the number of students who do not have the ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Education has been a priority for me my whole life. I first began tutoring college students in Math while still in college and have always been willing to teach or train anyone who needed it in my personal life or in a professional capacity. My formal education consists of a BS in Mathematics with a Concentration in Physics and a Certificate in Drafting Technology. My informal education is broad including working "in the real world" in fields such as banking, manufacturing, and administration. I also, for many years, home schooled my own son. I have experience working with people who have learning challenges and I enjoy tutoring math, all sciences, both hard and soft.

I enjoy knowing that I can have such a great influence in a child’s future. Being able to work with children and help them achieve that A in that classroom that they may have never thought they could get, can be the difference between a child going to college or not. I know that all children have what it takes to go above and beyond and with the right patience and guidance they can do the unthinkable.
I was an Elementary Education major for a year and a half of the time that I spent in college and even though I changed my major to Journalism and Mass Communications, I have found myself coming back to where I started. I enjoy knowing that if given this opportunity that I can reach out to so many children by helping them succeed in the classroom.I have recently started tutoring a co-workers son and I really like the growth that I see in his school work and the progress that I have be ... read more

More About This Tutor...

As a recent graduate of the University of NC at Greensboro, I've always strived to achieve the best. I graduated at the top of my class -- magna cum laude -- with a B.A. in English and Broadcasting & Cinema (Film). I'm a quick learner, and having tutored for a number of years, I'm also quite good when it comes to communicating with people and working in groups. As an artist, I have a critical eye and a strong drive to succeed. For over three years now, I have tutored students in Broadcasting, Italian, Mythology, and Earth Science. It's been extremely enjoyable and rewarding.
I have had a number of tutoring positions. Over the years, I have come to truly love tutoring. I have gained a great deal of patience. I'm extremely personable and approachable. But I feel that it is important to be staunch and to require the best from my students. I feel that through memorization and ... read more

My teaching style embraces a strength based approach. I start with what my students already know and build from there. I find that positive reinforcement of previously acquired skills encourages further learning. I also use creative everyday examples to help students understand topics better. For example, to help a child enhance their reading and math skills I’ll use a cooking activity. They read the instructions, use the dictionary to look up words they do not understand, and help complete the recipe with measuring, timing, etc. My style allows students to enhance both their knowledge and self-esteem.
I began tutoring others in different academic subjects while at Forest Hills High School. During my time at Dartmouth College I assisted others--primarily with writing assistance. Majoring in Education & African-American Studies, I endeavored to help others take pride in learning ... read more

My passion is working with youth. My goal is to inspire. As an English teacher, I understand that it is important to teach so that all students can understand the lesson. I teach to reach diverse learners. I have the proper training to differentiate my instructions to meet the different levels of learners. I believe it is the goal of the community to raise each child. My mission is served when a child understands a lesson.
As a Mass Communications graduate, I focused primarily on writing radio scripts and commercials. I had a goal to inspire the youth via the media. After several internships in the field, I realized that I could serve the youth better in the classroom. I started my career as a substitute teacher. After substituting on all levels, I then took on an EC Teacher's Assistant position at an elementary school. This position has given me the experience to understa ... read more
