Best Tutoring By Far.....

I started tutoring students middle and high school prior to graduating college. I have taught part-time college students at various institutions since 1996. I also have worked as an independent tutor part-time. I have more than 30 years of experience teaching as a one-on-one tutor and as a college instructor. I currently teach at Wake Tech Community College. I have taught at Strayer University, Campbell University, Mount Olive College, Durham Tech Community College, Central Carolina Community College and Vance-Granville Community College. I have worked with 3 other tutoring companies: University Instrcutors, Advanced Learners and WyzAnt.
I enjoy teaching any age student, but more than that I get satisfaction when that student attains their goal. I believe in using the Socratic method of teaching and allowing the student to get their own answers rather than just telling them. I seek ... read more

My comments on tutoring PSAT : 10 years tutoring experience

I have been tutoring for over 10 years in all types of Math, including Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus etc. I have also been tutoring in Chemistry and Physics. I have experience tutoring at the Middle School, High School, and College levels. I love tutoring students with diverse backgrounds ethnically, educationally, economically etc. I love people and I love teaching!
Different students have different 'keys' to learning. I utilize a flexible approach which seeks to 'unlock' the potential in each individual student.

No drudgery!

I solve problems. I am a bioanalytical chemist and biomedical engineer. This profession requires using math, statistics, biology and chemistry at a high level on a daily basis as I develop products that improve healthcare. I have taught or tutored science and math from elementary to post-college level for over 25 years in diverse settings.
Student-led and interactive. No lectures. No drudgery. I focus on the process of solving problems. Restate the question. Draw diagrams. Figure out what information is missing. How can I get that information? Can it be calculated or is an estimate good enough? What sources are reliable?

I am a calm, patient, and easy-going person who loves learning and loves helping others to learn. I enjoy adapting to different learning styles, and want to help each student to the greatest extent I am able to. I try to strike the correct balance between allowing students to work problems out themselves and giving them guidance. The subject areas I focus in are generally considered difficult, but I believe that with guidance, and perhaps a more constructive mindset, the problems can become enjoyable and achievable puzzles.
As a masters degree holding physicist I have an extensive background in both physics and mathematics. Additionally, as a published author and the author of many research papers and lab reports I have considerable grammatical skills, and writing experience. My whole educational career tutoring my classmates and siblings has come as second nature to me, but I ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am able to diagnose weak points in the student's knowledge and remedy those weak points so that the student is better able to have a full understanding of the content. I believe that most academic difficulties come from small gaps in knowledge and a misunderstanding of how parts relate to the whole.
I have been a counselor in the public schools for the past 16 years, both at the elementary and high school levels. I have tutored students in many subjects; ranging from 3rd grade math to advanced algebra to US History.

I love to involve children in learning exciting and useful information. I use many different ways, sometimes just talking and gleaning what is on their minds, then planning learning experiences that address these topics. I strive to reach all of my students as they try to gain useful information.
As an Exstension Safety Specialist, I have had the opportunity to provide youth and adults with needed information to effect a positive change in their lives. Many of the programs involving these clients were requested by the recipients based upon their needs. It was my responsibility to develop various ways for them to reach their goals.

My teaching philosophy is simple and contains three parts. Part one: The concept or topic is easy, regardless of what it is, it just must be broken down to its most basic elements. This is my job to do for the student. Once this is done for the student it will be shown that the perceived “complexity of the subject” is simply a compilation of basic elements of the subject, from here the topic can be built upon to more advanced levels; I am convinced this idea is not subject dependant. Part two: The student must decide that he or she can and will understand the subject matter and be successful in it. This too is a part of my job to encourage, motivate and instill confidence in the student. Part three: Practice, practice, and after that more practice. I will teach and encourage the student to constantly work on his or her new skills in the subject matter and as always review his or h ... read more

I love teaching and watching students learn and grow. I feel that tutoring gives, a teacher, an opportunity to give a child one-on-one attention, therefore, enhancing one's potential at learning. I believe, that as children are our future, it is our responsibility to prepare them to be productive and useful citizens.
I began my work, with youth, in 1983 when I worked with incarcerated youth at the Highland Youth Center in upstate NY. A Little Bit About Me...

Coming from the influence of a family of educators, I realized early on my affinity towards teaching. In addition to my college degrees, I have been very involved in the 'summer camp' experience. Over six summers, I worked with two summer camps to teach various physical and academic curricula to grade groups K-5, 6-8, 9-12. In graduate school, I was given the opportunity to spearhead a class of undergraduates, splitting lecture time with the professor. I am currently writing my thesis (under review of faculty) to be published on the "Architectural History of NC State University and the Areas Surrounding" it. During my time in university, I have tutored students in chemistry, astronomy, English, grammar, Spanish, math, history and several other general education elements.
I believe that information accessibility should be emphasized and placed in bold. I would consider my style pers ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always found that the best teachers are the ones who are able to explain the same concept in a variety of ways, so this is what I seek to do when teaching. I also attempt to not only teach a student how to do a problem, but also to gain a "big picture" view of the concept being taught; i.e., I want the student to be able to not only apply the concept to problems of the same type that he/she does in homework, but also to related problems that he/she might not have previously seen.
I have always been gifted in mathematics, and I feel that is is my duty to help others achieve the success that I have. I earned a BS from Bucknell University in mathematics and I am now working towards a PhD in statistics at NC State University. I have taken education courses and I have worked with professors to run "gifted and talented" mathematic courses for students.

A Little Bit About Me...

I was a full time babysitter during my sophomore year of college. I sat for a 1st grader and 5th grader. I would help them with their homework and study for tests. The first grader was having a hard time with his subtractions and I tutored him in math.
I love working with children, in my psychology studies i focused primarily on children. I know how they think and I am skilled in helping them find alternative ways of thinking about problem solving. I am extremely patient and easy to get along with. I work well with children and want to eventually become a guidance counselor.

I assume even the 'worst' student wishes to learn, has the means to do so, and will direct me in how to help him or her discover a best method. Learning must be both fun and hard work, until the hard work becomes 'fun'. I have expertise in using the internet well beyond Wikipedia and Answers.com. I have access through the university to a variety of sources not available outside the universty (Elsiver, JStor, ArtStor, etc.) I believe in all sources for encouraging readers: comics, sports bios, the sports page of the NYTimes, magazines from InStyle to the NewYorker. I like 'manipulatives' in math because it makes math visual. Drawing the Pythagorean Theorem is a thrill to even my engineering majors.
For over twenty years I have taught at the college level, with extensive expertise in teaching the liberal arts to engineering majors. Much of my work is directed towards teaching ... read more
