I start off with the student displaying what they know and/or don't know. I give an example and and encourage feedback in order to guage the student's understanding. Finally, I have the student to show their understanding. Sometimes, it may take different methods because people learn differently.
I have had over 15 years of tutoring and/or teaching experience. I have worked with different age groups, my preferred and primary being adults. I am currently working on my master’s thesis in mathematics, by which I expect to graduate fairly soon. I am patient, creative, and thorough in my interaction with students. College grad with teaching/tutoring experience; kid-friendly

I have taught private violin lessons for ten years to students ranging in age from 4-26. At the University of Alabama, I taught the lab component to Intro into Biology for Non-majors under Dr. Tom Graham and histology under Dr. Jane Rasco. Through the years I have tutored school-age children in all subjects, although I specialize in tutoring math and science. All of my pupils have shown improvement in their scores, with one particular case bringing a failing grade to a C in one reporting cycle.
I prefer a hands-on approach, especially with science and math. I believe an education is more than memorizing definitions but understanding and being able to apply concepts broadly. Teaching has been a desire of mine since I taught math at a local high school for two years. After High School, I taught Sunday School at the small church I attended. I was co-teacher with an older gentleman, and the students were 12-15 years old. When my wife and I lived in Seymour (2002-2004), we often helped our nephews with their math homework or class Science projects. I loved explaining the basics, the steps required as we conducted the experiments and documented results in a logical, orderly progression of events. Our oldest nephew struggled with Algebra and geometric reasoning. When in Seymour, I could teach him one-on-one, and especially enjoyed using sketches to drive home geometrical concepts.
