I have taught private violin lessons for ten years to students ranging in age from 4-26. At the University of Alabama, I taught the lab component to Intro into Biology for Non-majors under Dr. Tom Graham and histology under Dr. Jane Rasco. Through the years I have tutored school-age children in all subjects, although I specialize in tutoring math and science. All of my pupils have shown improvement in their scores, with one particular case bringing a failing grade to a C in one reporting cycle.
I prefer a hands-on approach, especially with science and math. I believe an education is more than memorizing definitions but understanding and being able to apply concepts broadly. 1) I like to help the student define our goal: "What is it we are trying to achieve?" 2) "How do we get there?" Here I am open to suggestions from the student as to how we achieve that goal. This gives me clues to his/her learning style. 3) I try to help the student break down each problem or project into small, managable steps. If practicable, I prefer the use of physical objects or sketches to visually drive home geometric concepts, or use them as examples of "engineering problems" met and conquered by someone before them. I graduated from Georgia Tech in 2008. In high school I was on the math team all four years. That helped me excel in my math skills. I also tutored my peers my senior year everyday before class started. I currently tutor a high school senior.

During my Sophomore Year at College of Charleston I worked in the Math Lab tutoring all levels of classical mathematics up to Calculus III. I happened to be the only tutor who checked a box saying I could help high school students, and therefore worked with every family who called the college looking for a math tutor. After that year had a very large math tutoring business on the side, and over the last 10 years I have privately tutored mathematics and offered SAT and ACT Prep services at many of the finest academic institutions in Charleston, SC.
I can teach with or without a textbook.
