My comments on tutoring Algebra : I have taught Kindergarten, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, and 5th Grade. I am certified K-6th grade. I also taught advanced math in a GED/HiSet program. I currently teach ESOL/CIVICS for an Adult School.

My teaching philosophy starts out with essentialism which believes in a strong core curriculum and high academic standards. I believe it is important to have a strong foundation on which to build upon. After ensuring a strong foundation I tend to lean more towards progressivism. I believe students should be taught what is relevant today while becoming more independent learners, by utilizing problem solving skills and critical thinking. Mathematics Tutor

A Little Bit About Me...

Along with a Bachelor's Degree in Business, I have many educational experiences in the area of science, math, history (to name a few). My personal style varies on the pupil. These may vary from simply being frustrated with the curriculum to a myriad of influences. The lights go on when a student grasps a subject.

Teaching brings me pleasure. What I do is to show them, help them, then have them do whatever I am teaching them to do. Sometimes one of the steps may have to be repeated, but this process really works well.
I have tutored my friend's daughter in math and English. I have assisted her with science and social studies projects. Her ADHD can inhibit the learning process, but we are able to work through the problems. Learning about weighted blankets helped me work with her. She is a kinetic learner. my nieces are both visual learners. I have to adapt to each learning style.

My comments on tutoring Algebra : This class would have to do with things like systems of equations, etc. Even though I took these classes years ago, I still remember them as if I had taken them yesterday.

Depends on the needs of the student. In my first meeting with best friend's daughter, I gave her a sample quiz to fill out to gauge where she was. Then, we began to work through areas where she was having the worst issues. I focused on those and explained things to where she could better understand. I had her do homework then we went over it the next time we met. At the end, I had her take a comprehensive test over areas we had covered that helped to prepare her for the test. I worked with her closely and was pretty much hands on in terms of teaching style.
I don't have much experience in tutoring students. However, in what experience I have, has been limited to college students and my my best friend's youngest daughter.
