Mathematics Tutor

Throughout my life, I have enjoyed doing mathematics. It has been my strongest subject since grade school. My comments on tutoring Algebra : I have taught Kindergarten, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, and 5th Grade. I am certified K-6th grade. I also taught advanced math in a GED/HiSet program. I currently teach ESOL/CIVICS for an Adult School.

My teaching philosophy starts out with essentialism which believes in a strong core curriculum and high academic standards. The lights go on when a student grasps a subject.

Teaching brings me pleasure. What I do is to show them, help them, then have them do whatever I am teaching them to do. Sometimes one of the steps may have to be repeated, but this process really works well.
I have tutored my friend's daughter in math and English. I have assisted her with science and social studies projects. Her ADHD can inhibit the learning process, but we are able to work through the problems. Learning about weighted blankets helped me work with her. She is a kinetic learner. my nieces are both visual learners. I have to adapt to each learning style.

My comments on tutoring Algebra : This class would have to do with things like systems of equations, etc. Even though I took these classes years ago, I still remember them as if I had taken them yesterday.

I don't have much experience in tutoring students. However, in what experience I have, has been limited to college students and my my best friend's youngest daughter. Absolutely hated math with a passion. After tutoring her for a few weeks, she went to take a placement exam to determine what college class she would take math. She did very well on the exam, and her mom was impressed with how I was able to break things down in a way her daughter could understand.
Depends on the needs of the student. In my first meeting with best friend's daughter, I gave her a sample quiz to fill out to gauge where she was. My personal style varies on the pupil. These may vary from simply being frustrated with the curriculum to a myriad of influences. My style is considered out of the box, meaning that if the standard method does not "click" with him/her, then I enjoy finding something of interest to them, to relate that to the subject at hand.
