As a tutor, I find that it is important to present the material to the students in a way that they can relate to. My job as an educator is to teach them how to learn it and make them want to learn it. I personally do not believe that negative reinforcement is beneficial. Positive responses to students are extremely valuable, even if they may occasionally give the wrong answer. This will give them the motivation to do well. My philosophy is that teaching is part knowledge, part communication, and part intuition. My intuition is necessary to understand where a student is getting stuck. I previously worked as a substitute teacher with Morrow Elementary in North Lauderdale, Florida where I taught test-taking strategies for the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test. Based on previous experience I have discovered that the same teaching style does not work for every child. My college education was very self driven and self propelled. I received three academic scholarships throughout my college career and maintained a 3.84 GPA for the entire four years. At the close of my four years, I earned a BS is History, giving me a particularly good foundation in the humanities and English composition.
