I am a teacher who has learned through experience. I went from college to Kenya to teach in an international school for 2 years. I learned a lot about teaching and culture during that time. When I returned I subbed for 2.5 years in which I learned more than all my schooling. During that time I earned a master's and have gone on to move in the direction that jobs have come.I taught SPED for a year, taught at an Outdoor School for a year, taught Kindergarten at a private school and worked with Autistic children as a one on one tutor. As a former military child, I have learned to adapt very quickly to any situation and believe every experience is a learning one. I have worked with both military and non-military with my duties in some jobs included helping people with software and computer skills. My undergraduate degree in Mass Communications strengthened my ability to communicate effectively and sparked further interest in education. Since my graduation in 2003, I've completed over 60 units of college classes. I am currently working on a second degree, in Nursing. I love art and feel very strongly that it should be a very important part of everyone's education. Students are anxious to actively participate. I do a demonstration while I lecture on a particular point, i.e., perspective, form, light, color theory, etc., then let them have time to execute a given assignment in class. At this point I give them personal attention. I have a "critque" at the end of the session and have them participate. I require constructive comments so as not to discourage anyone and to promote the notion that everyone has a unique and valuable point of view . Homework is assigned and I ask students to keep a sketchbook, which should be drawn in daily. I ask to see these ungraded books intermittently throughout the course.
