I am an experienced Educator at both the secondary and post secondary levels. While teaching at Puyallup High School I received two awards for excellence for my work with special needs students. I was also responsible for developing a program that was named “Best in State” two years in a row. I have excellent teaching and communications skills. When I returned I subbed for 2.5 years in which I learned more than all my schooling. I love art and feel very strongly that it should be a very important part of everyone's education. Students are anxious to actively participate. I do a demonstration while I lecture on a particular point, i.e., perspective, form, light, color theory, etc., then let them have time to execute a given assignment in class. At this point I give them personal attention. I have a "critque" at the end of the session and have them participate. I require constructive comments so as not to discourage anyone and to promote the notion that everyone has a unique and valuable point of view . Homework is assigned and I ask students to keep a sketchbook, which should be drawn in daily. I ask to see these ungraded books intermittently throughout the course.

As a former military child, I have learned to adapt very quickly to any situation and believe every experience is a learning one. I have worked with both military and non-military with my duties in some jobs included helping people with software and computer skills. My undergraduate degree in Mass Communications strengthened my ability to communicate effectively and sparked further interest in education.
