I was first introduced to accounting by owning my own business. Then I was hired by an engineering company to update their bookkeeping method from paper to computer. I became proficient in troubleshooting discrepancies and providing users with solutions. I interfaced with Federal and State taxing agencies, banks, and lending institutions requiring reports and/or payments. This is a necessity to begin learning other concepts with any subject. Second, any rules, equations, procedures or the "how to" come into play. The learn how to use the definitions or formulas they learned. Third, examples are necessary. Thought provoking ones which allow the students to follow a clear path of logic to understanding important concepts.
