EXPERT TUTOR-MultiSubject; Home/ONLINE; +WRITING instructor

I am a Cum Laude graduate with a B.A. from Belmont University, and I have been an educator for more than a decade since. My experience includes classroom teaching, small group instruction, and individualized tutoring (in person OR online via Zoom, email, FaceTime etc.) I specialize in English, Language Arts, writing composition, Latin, and other Humanities subjects. But I am also an effective & experienced instructor of Maths or Sciences. Outside of subject-specific tutoring, I offer assistance with academic advising, study skills, test prep, daily homework, and any written assignments. A lot of my clients are seeking instructional guidance through the essay writing process - outlining, paragraph drafting, content development, research/source usage, grammar/mechanics, sentence structure, etc. My students have ranged in age from preschool through college, and I have a very strong record ... read more

My comments on tutoring Government : Highly qualified k-8

For 20 years I worked for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, as a fifth through 7th Grade classroom teacher. I taught all of the academic subjects in various combinations, sometimes all at once to a self-contained class. The State of Tennessee recognized me as "Highly Qualified" in all subjects, from Kindergarten through 8th Grade. I served on the district's math council for 5 years, helped direct the district's science fair one year, and worked extensively in the field of arts-based curriculum development. I also was trained in the IB curriculum, and implemented it for 10 years.
Constructivist, multi-sensory, inquiry-based.

I am currently completing my final year at Vanderbilt Law School. Over the past three years, I have taught a class and provided one-on-one tutoring for students preparing to take the LSAT. I also taught an upper level course while in grad school (it was in radio production). While I was in undergrad, I spent time tutoring elementary and middle school aged children over the internet. All together, I have helped dozens of individual students in a private setting and nearly a hundred students in the classroom. Personally, I love numbers and have always been very comfortable with math. But my grades and test scores have always been just as strong in other subjects, and I am confident that I can help you or your child in any of the areas listed below.

More About This Tutor...

By the time that I have spent a short time with my students, they know that I care for them and want them to be the best that they can be; they know that I expect good work from them and want each to do his or her best. As I learn my students, I realize my need to differentiate my teaching styles to fit my students' specific learning needs and am convinced that each person can learn and can do well if he or she is worked with according to his or her particular learning style. I am patient with my students but work to push them to be their best.
I have twenty-nine years of experience in teaching middle and high school students. I have taught high school English, Bible, history, and speech/drama; and middle school English, Bible, science, history, speech/drama, and math through Pre-Algebra. More About This Tutor...

I hold a bachelor's degree in Political Science, which focused on writing and research. I earned an alternative teaching certification, which allowed me to work as an inclusion teacher at the middle school level, which allowed me to spend a great deal of time working with small groups and in one on one settings. I have taught life sciences, Earth sciences, world geography, and United States history. I also have a year's experience of tutoring beginning reading.
I enjoy working with students and showing them the joy of learning. I believe that children learn most in small groups and one on one environments. I believe that children learn best when they feel respected. I think that everyone has skills and talents to offer. I try to help my students find their own gifts and work to allow them to succeed in the classroom and beyond.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked with children at all different ages, as well as children with largely varying developmental levels. I believe that encouraging children when they do well is absolutely necessary to effective learning. I also learn each child's disposition so that I can develop effective ways to redirect when they are not on the right path. I wholeheartedly believe that to get the respect that comes with a child trusting me enough to learn from me, I must show 100% respect to that child; it is an even exchange. I truly care about children, their well-being, and their futures and I know that when I interact with children, they recognize my sincerity and are therefore able to trust, and learn.

A Little Bit About Me...

Growing up with more than five teachers in my family, I have always had a deep understanding of the importance of education and a drive to teach others. I recieved my Bachelor's in English from the University of Southern Indiana with the intention of completing a Masters and becomming an instructor at the college level. However, upon completion of my Bachelors, I immediately began teaching at Nashville State Community College as an adjunct english instructor. I then made a transition to tutoring grades K-12 for the No Child Left Behind Program. I have enjoyed working in this capacity for the program ever since I started tutoring five years ago.
The greatest benefit of teaching, to me, is seeing the look in a child's eyes when he or she finally reaches that understanding of what you are teaching them. The challenge of finding a new way to help a child reach this understanding i ... read more

After finishing my undergraduate work, I was a substitute teacher for 7 months. I then went on to Belmont University where I recieved my Masters in Education, which required a one year student teaching placement. I have also served as a TCAP interventionalist where I helped students prepare for the statewide achievment test.

I love to work with children because it allows me to use my creativity. I tend to use a more kinesethic, hands-on approach in my teaching. I believe that when children are able to have the subject matter displayed to them in a 3D format, they are able to comprehend it's use in the real world. It also keeps their attention span active. For example, once when working on fractions with a student I brought in playdoh that we shaped into a pie. The child was able to create the fractions with their hands and was excited about taking pieces away and counting what was left in the pie. For me, the experience of seeing a child's eyes light up when they are finally able to comprehend something is very rewarding.
I have always had a passion for educating children. I attended two different colleges and I value the experience and skills provided by both institutions. I spent two years at the U ... read more

As a college graduate I have been driven to do my best to make sure every child is given the opportunity to have the very best education. I have earned my Bachelor degree in early childhood but do not hold a teacher's certificate. I have had extensitve training in edcuation courses, and love helping children read. A Little Bit About Me...

Most high school students don't get the chance to teach their own geometry classes. With our teacher in the back of class, I lectured from the book, guided my peers’ board work, and answered their questions. Since then I have incorporated training and education in everything that I do. As a manger in two very different industries, I succeeded in delivering exceptional production and service by training my teams and giving them opportunities to become accountable for their performances. While a graduate sociology student, I jumped at the special invitation to adjunct for a semester in addition to my teaching assistant duties and found it to be even more rewarding than I imagined. During both of my graduate programs, I found that guiding study sessions and offering a variety of tutoring assistance and training (such as three languages, history, philosophy, fitness) became central to my suc ... read more

I believe that when a student does not do well in school, it is not because that student cannot learn. Different teaching methods speak to different students, and sometimes a student simply needs a fresh and alternative introduction to subject material. My job as a tutor is to find the teaching method that speaks most clearly to my student. By being patient, precise, persistent, and knowledgeable, I know I can help my student reach his/her academic goals.
My excellent writing skills, ACT score of 35, and passion for academics got me into Vanderbilt University, from which I acquired my BA in 2009. I studied every subject I could but found most pleasure in political science and sociology. In addition to these fields, I have expertise in grammar, essay composition, and a variety of creative arts. I also have teaching knowledge of the basic maths and sciences.
