A Little Bit About Me...

Communication has always been an interest of mine so I pursued a journalism degree and spent many hours in education to be an adept communicator through the written word. I also enjoy the person-to-person communication that is involved with the journalism profession. I have expanded my skills and knowledge through pursuing a creative arts career, as well. Before going to college, I formed the Oscoda County Youth Association with the goal of creating an organization that operated in the interests of the youth of the community. While in college, I spent three months teaching over 30 sixth-graders at Mio AuSable School how to play guitar. Then, conducted the group in the performance of an original composition at the 2007 Christmas Play.

During my career in the pharmaceutical industry, I conducted several training classes and often prepared all of the training materials and class content. Beginning in 1998, I was hired by Cuesta College of San Luis Obispo as a part time instructor. In that capacity, I have taught a variety of subjects including Accounting, English as a second language, Spanish, Italian, Quickbooks, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Computer usage for Senior Citizens, and Personal Income Tax Preparation. For four years, I served as a Spanish instructor for the GATE program of the City of Atascadero. For twenty years (1988 - 2008), I conducted informal classes in Spanish and Italian which were offered by the City of Paso Robles.

I have worked both at private and public middle schools. I've gained great respect for diversity in all it's wonderful forms. My experience has taught me that each child, not only deserves, but dreams of success. My belief that each child is "gift-brilliant" in some area, grows stronger the more experienced I become in my career as an educator and as a parent. If necessary, I separate an idea into simpler terms, and help students learn each term before continuing. I give examples which illustrate a point or demonstrate a procedure. At times, my students write short essays, which I critique for sentence structure, word choice, tense matching, and organization. When a student is reading aloud, I follow along, interjecting if necessary with the correct pronunciation or the proper syllable emphasis.

I have a Bachelor's degree in accounting and many years of accounting experience. I also have knowledge of computer programming with html, css, javascript, php, and mysql. I have advanced skills in Excel spreadsheets. I also know Word, Powerpoint, Access, and Quickbooks. I can tutor math through the pre-calculus level.
