Genetics is one of my top subjects! A large component of my graduate research utilized population genetics to answer fisheries questions.

I prefer a relaxed atmosphere of one-on-one teaching with a hands-on approach. I feel that part of the problem, for so many students, is that they are not comfortable approaching their teachers and asking questions. I want to create an atmosphere where there is no hesitancy to ask any question. The student's progress will determine the pace.
I successfully completed a B.S. in Marine Biology from the College of Charleston in 2004. During my undergraduate career I was able to participate in a research cruise at sea and conduct independent research. I later worked for the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, Marine Resources Division, conducting research in a variety of fields including mariculture and stock enhancement. A Little Bit About Me...

I have participated in many study groups where I actively contribute information on the topic of interest; there we help each other and teach each other. Also, I'm the oldest sibling of four, I have had many years of helping out with homework and tutoring in reading, writing and math. My education consisted of diverse studies and I learned a great deal of mathematics and sciences. Also, naturally I use proper grammar and have a good hand for writing. Teaching to me is about relating the information to the students in a way they can understand. It is very important to make the material relevant to their lives somehow. Therefore it is important to get to know your students and their hobbies and interests. Another key thing needed to teach is patience. You cannot expect them to race through anything. Everyone has their own pace. It is also important to make the information interesting and entertaining to some extent, Especially for younger students. Sometimes an educational game is just as good at getting the information across but at the same time engages the students and keeps them interested.
