I have always enjoyed teaching and helping others to learn. I don't believe in "I can't do it" or "I can't learn". I believe that anyone can learn anything as long as they're willing to learn and put an effort to do so. I am currently a general music teacher at Samsula Academy, an elementary school in New Smyrna Beach, FL. I teach general music classes to students in grades K-5, as well as chorus and band. I like to have the students actively participating in the lessons. They enjoy working out the lesson examples and problems on the media that is used so all of the class can see the successes and where we need more work and explanation. Hands on work is very valuable such as working with graphing calculators. The students enjoy manipulatives and technology where they can make their own discoveries. Math and the graphing calculator have become one in the same, so I use them constantly in the classroom.

To me teaching is about solving puzzles. Each student needs different devices or strategies to learn at their full potential. I prefer to work with children who have learning disabilities and/or with a dislike for education. I find that my teaching style is interesting to this particular type of student. I acknowledge the childs dismay in learning and I allow them to help me to adjust the teaching material to a teaching style that best suits the childs learning style. Science and english are subjects that many children don't enjoy. I make it much easier for them to learn the subject and then we expound thier knowledge from there.
I graduated from UCF with a Bachelors in Communicative Disorders (speech therapy). I love english and science and found this to be a perfect mix. That is my first train of thought when presenting material. With math, the key to math is take it one step at a time.
