A Little Bit About Me...

Depending on the class, I use a variety of styles. An educator can make a difference in students' lives. I have seen this through my 28 years of teaching. I try to provide mentoring while teaching to help students who are looking for a reason to succeed.
I have 26 years experience teaching Spanish and Latin at all levels (graduate and udnergraduate) at Austin Peay State University. Included are three years of part-time teaching Latin and Spanish at the Clarksville Academy, Clarksville, TN. 2 years experience teaching Spanish and Linguistics at Arkansas Tech University. Now, I am semi-retired.

Working as a Spanish Interpreter, I work with pre-school aged children. I work with them during their therapy time, especially in Speech Therapy. I enjoy being able to help these young students overcome many obstacles that they are facing. I am very patient with them and considerate of their different needs. I want to be able to help students of other languages feel secure and comfortable with themselves when they get out in the real world. I hope to make a difference in all of their lives.

I began learning Spanish in the 4th grade at an excellent public school in Ohio. I became fast friends with a foreign exchange student from Nicaragua, whose limited English proficiency was my greatest opportunity to learn Spanish. In my junior year at Otterbein College I traveled to Segovia, Spain and studied at the University of Segovia for two semesters. Since that time I have taught ESL and Spanish to hundreds of students. I have traveled extensively in Latin America and the Caribbean, and am familiar with idiomatic expressions and local customs throughout the Hispanic community.
