John C - Normal, IL 61761 (8.6 mi) - Musical Tutor - $37.00/hr.
My teaching style is one which engages the student actively in the learning process. I have used the "popcorn" technique in a classroom, where I call out "popcorn", then call on someone at random. This ensures that each student in the class is following, or else they lose their turn to read.
If I'm working w/ a student w/ poor reading skills, I allow them to read, and help them w/ the difficult words, encouraging them to sound out the word. I also try to engage models, and kinestetics, in the learning process. One picture=1,000 words, and one model = 1,000 pictures. I also use these techniques in teaching mathematics. In college, I was a peer tutor in Math, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry. I have sub-taught for CUSD 5, and CUSD 87, for 3 years. I have a Illinois Type 09 Certification, which is currently valid in McLean County. I have good grammar skills, and very good mathematica

Anne B - Peoria, IL 61603 (24 mi) - Musical Tutor - $33.50/hr.
I have a BA from Western IL University in Macomb, IL. I have been substitute teaching and am currently enrolled to complete my certification in Elementary English/Language Arts at ISU in Normal, IL. I enjoy teaching children in an arts based style, if possible. I believe that utilizing music can enhance a childs comprehension and learning. I think that tutoring allows students to be given the necessary one-on-one attention to help them achieve their goals.

Clotee L - West Peoria, IL 61604 (25.1 mi) - Musical Tutor - $37.00/hr.
Teaching and learning is deeply rooted in my being, children are my joy, and I truly believe all are capable of learning. I use a constructivist approach to teaching, and believe learners reach potential by active involvement. It is my goal to assist, model and motivate students to achieve academic excellence; to excel to the highest learning standards. With patience and guidance I will make a "learning" difference in every life I touch. As an experienced K-12 substitute teacher, my work extended from the inner city to the county schools. I had the opportunity to instruct students with various ability levels and learning styles. During the 2008-2009 school term I served as an AmeriCorps VISTA in a middle school working as tutor, special projects assistant, and mentor. I hold a BS degree in Sociology and expect to earn a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction in 2010. Graduate school taught

Rachel W - Brimfield, IL 61517 (36.3 mi) - Musical Tutor - $33.50/hr.
I have a very strong background in writing. My experience includes my graduate research and thesis, news writing for a tv station, in addition to 6 years of writing for academia. I spent a semester in Pau, France and can tutor beginning to intermediate level students. I graduated with a 3.9 GPA in high school, college and graduate school. I don't believe in giving a student the answers to their questions. Rather, I think it is important to help them find the answers themselves--understanding the process will enable them to perform on their own. For example, rather than editing a student's paper, I will go through it line by line and have them help me find the errors.
