My teaching style is one which engages the student actively in the learning process. I have used the "popcorn" technique in a classroom, where I call out "popcorn", then call on someone at random. This ensures that each student in the class is following, or else they lose their turn to read. If I'm working w/ a student w/ poor reading skills, I allow them to read, and help them w/ the difficult words, encouraging them to sound out the word. I also try to engage models, and kinestetics, in the learning process. One picture=1,000 words, and one model = 1,000 pictures. I also use these techniques in teaching mathematics.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a BA from Western IL University in Macomb, IL. I have been substitute teaching and am currently enrolled to complete my certification in Elementary English/Language Arts at ISU in Normal, IL.
I enjoy teaching children in an arts based style, if possible. I believe that utilizing music can enhance a childs comprehension and learning. I think that tutoring allows students to be given the necessary one-on-one attention to help them achieve their goals.
