Experience Summary
As an experienced K-12 substitute teacher, my work extended from the inner city to the county schools. I had the opportunity to instruct students with various ability levels and learning styles. During the 2008-2009 school term I served as an AmeriCorps VISTA in a middle school working as tutor, special projects assistant, and mentor. I hold a BS degree in Sociology and expect to earn a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction in 2010. Graduate school taught me to converse on every level; to write research papers, essays, and content specific lesson plans that conform to IL Learning Standards. With joy I will employ technology aids to teach and adapt instruction to each individual, situation or learning environment.
Teaching Style
Teaching and learning is deeply rooted in my being, children are my joy, and I truly believe all are capable of learning. I use a constructivist approach to teaching, and believe learners reach potential by active involvement. It is my goal to assist, model and motivate students to achieve academic excellence; to excel to the highest learning standards. With patience and guidance I will make a "learning" difference in every life I touch.
