I believe that authenticity is the key to relating to people--especically children. Children are drawn to me because they sense my kindness and compassion. Equally important is my belief that evereyone learns differently. There is no right or wrong way to learn. A "slow" learner is not "stupid" or deficient in any way. They just have to be accomodating in an alternative manner. I believe that a teacher must adapt to the child's style of learning. For five years I taught swimming lessons. While swimming isnotan academic subject, this experience taught me the essentials of teaching. I worked with a large range of ages, from six months to sixty years. While in college I was a tutor/editor in the writing center all three years.
