I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Lindenwood University. As a sophomore I was chosen as one of Lindenwood University’s History Tutors, a position I maintained until graduation in 2009. My primary responsibilities included: conducting exam study sessions, grading exams and assignments, and providing one on one tutoring (f.e. implementing study tactics, test review, editing). Currently, I am embarking on the pursuit of Graduate School. The foundation of my academic experience starts with Mrs. Cox, a teacher for over 30 years and a mother of four — my mother. It is through her guidance that I have acquired the patience, tact, and discipline necessary for learning and instructing. I do a demonstration while I lecture on a particular point, i.e., perspective, form, light, color theory, etc., then let them have time to execute a given assignment in class. My teaching style would be that of Guided Discovery. This is a highly interactive style which leads the student to uncover the answer themselves as opposed to the teacher simply reciting the answer to them. Guided Discovery requires the student to learn by doing therefore developing necessary problem solving and deductive skills that will make them better learners and thinkers both now and in the future.
