Experience Summary
I have many years experience as an illustrator and graphic designer, with large and small advertising agencies in Los Angeles. I have taught sculpture to children with Cindy Jackson through Art Center College of Design's program, "Art Center for Kids". I have also held volunteer workshops for Children of the Night in Van Nuys, California.
I have privately tutored as well, for portfolio development for high school students seeking admission to art schools.
I paint and draw in weekly workshops, and have begun my MFA through Academy of Art in San Francisco's internet program. I have been published in journals and been in several group shows in Northern and Southern California. I have paintings in private collections throughout the USA.
Teaching Style
I love art and feel very strongly that it should be a very important part of everyone's education. Students are anxious to actively participate. I do a demonstration while I lecture on a particular point, i.e., perspective, form, light, color theory, etc., then let them have time to execute a given assignment in class. At this point I give them personal attention. I have a "critque" at the end of the session and have them participate. I require constructive comments so as not to discourage anyone and to promote the notion that everyone has a unique and valuable point of view . Homework is assigned and I ask students to keep a sketchbook, which should be drawn in daily. I ask to see these ungraded books intermittently throughout the course.
