Experienced, unconventional Latin and English teacher

Personal, humorous, and energetic. I tailor games and activities to each class and do not think teaching directly from a text inspires many to learn. Typical key elements of my courses include flexible lesson planning, personalized tests/quizzes, adding cultural content, and incorporating student ideas as much as possible.
I have over 20 years of experience working as a university instructor and private teacher for students ages 11-50. Most of my experience has been in English as a Second Language programs for community colleges and research universities, including M.I.T. and Tufts University. For the past several years I have been assisting middle and high school students with Latin (I have studied over 11 years of that language) and have also tutored beginning German and English writing.

As a graduate of the University of Georgia, I was very much driven to achieve a high level of excellence in education and consider myself an avid and life-long learner and a lover of education in all forms. I have earned a bachelors degree, in both English and Anthropology and a certificate in American Sign Language. I have furthered my learning through volunteer positions in my community as well through my chosen career path. A Little Bit About Me...

As the son of two life-long public educators, the importance of a quality education has always a major theme in my life. Upon entering college I choose mathematics as a major due to the proficiency I have always had in the subject. During my studies I realized that I had an innate ability to not only grasp and understand difficult mathematical concepts, but also to explain them to others. Thus I began to tutor fellow peers and other scholastic students in subjects ranging from Pre-Algebra to Calculus II. I have continued tutoring for the last two and a half years.
