As the son of two life-long public educators, the importance of a quality education has always a major theme in my life. Upon entering college I choose mathematics as a major due to the proficiency I have always had in the subject. During my studies I realized that I had an innate ability to not only grasp and understand difficult mathematical concepts, but also to explain them to others. Thus I began to tutor fellow peers and other scholastic students in subjects ranging from Pre-Algebra to Calculus II. I have continued tutoring for the last two and a half years. I am a huge supporter of the idea that anyone can learn anything that they desire. With that being said, it seems that there should be no problem with students learning mathematics; but there is. As a graduate of the University of Georgia, I was very much driven to achieve a high level of excellence in education and consider myself an avid and life-long learner and a lover of education in all forms. I have earned a bachelors degree, in both English and Anthropology and a certificate in American Sign Language. I have furthered my learning through volunteer positions in my community as well through my chosen career path. During the last ten years I have tutored students on elementary and high school levels, held substitute teaching positions, taught study abroad programs in New Zealand, Australia and Fiji and worked as a journalist and editor and a number of different publications throughout the southeast. All too often students become demotivated and demoralised, losing faith in their instincts and abilities. Through sensitive tutoring I aim to reawaken an enthusiasm for learning in my students - to tap into their natural curiosity and resourcefulness to enable them to take ownership of their education and meet their potential. I have a strong working knowledge of different learning styles and teaching theories and am careful to tailor lessons to learners' specific needs and aptitudes. I have a First Class BA in English from Oxford University and a Masters in Film.
