Composition is one of my top subjects! I have worked in law since 2001 as a paralegal and my job consists of a tremendous amount of writing and reading along with writing briefs, doing research, corresponding with federal and state agencies, judges and attorneys. Grammar, spelling, vocabulary, composing and creating letters as well as filing legal documents with the courts and most importantly, possessing excellent communication skills and a great work ethic are all excellent and necessary tools to be a successful tutor.

My approach to teaching is to provide what is needed, and sometimes that is not limited to the explicit task at hand. As an English teacher/tutor, I have often found that, rather than merely showing students how to recognize a complete sentence and use correct punctuation and grammar, the more important thing is to prove to them that they can think, and that they are intelligent. To this end, I use gentle Socratic questioning to stimulate students, loosen them up, get them interested, and increase their comfort. Often, what comes out of a student's mouth is surprisingly wonderful, and I quickly say, "That's great! Write that down!"
