Composition is one of my top subjects! I have worked in law since 2001 as a paralegal and my job consists of a tremendous amount of writing and reading along with writing briefs, doing research, corresponding with federal and state agencies, judges and attorneys. As an English teacher/tutor, I have often found that, rather than merely showing students how to recognize a complete sentence and use correct punctuation and grammar, the more important thing is to prove to them that they can think, and that they are intelligent. To this end, I use gentle Socratic questioning to stimulate students, loosen them up, get them interested, and increase their comfort.
