UCLA: Math/Science/Computers/Executive Functions

I'm a graduate of UCLA Engineering with a passion for explaining how the physical world works through math and physics along with 14 years of tutoring experience in those subjects, test prep, and mentorship programs. The teaching strategy I believe in emphasizes subject fundamentals, a powerful and necessary tool for higher problem solving. This strategy has proven very effective regardless of the student's educational background or mental ability. Besides being knowledgeable, I am motivating, caring, and patient in guiding your student to academic success! EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING: Executive Functioning is a separate realm that tutoring can assist in. It deals with cognitive processes including organization, time management, and study skills. Much of the difficulty students face in academic subjects can be attributed to the lack of executive functioning. They either cannot keep up w ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that every child has the ability to learn, and do well in school. I also realized that what might work for one student, won’t always work with another, so being able to adapt to each child is something I love to do. I want every child to be able to go to school confident every day, no matter what is thrown at them, because they understand what they are doing.
I have wanted to be a math teacher for as long as I can remember, so while I was in high school I would help out my friends, or neighborhood children. Once I got into college, I started helping out in tutoring centers and private companies. For the last three years, I have taught at the Cal State Channel Islands, while I was working on my Masters degree.

My passion is my teaching. I have used my BS in Chemistry to work in the technical, sales and EH & S fields in industry. I have spent the last fifteen years training engineers and technicians in the industrial world. After my children graduated from college in the summer of 2008, I went back to school and earned my teaching credential in Secondary Education-Science. My enthusiasm for teaching applied science and mathematics to young students has given me high marks in my Graduate program. While going to school at night, I have been substitute teaching during the days. I have been a registered tutor out of the Ventura Unified School District for Algebra, Geometry, Chemistry and Physics.
I love to share my "hands-on" experiences of the physical world with the students I teach. No matter their age, students can be captivated by the physical world around them. Science doesn' ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My experience in learning assistance is mainly from college. There I soon learned that while the professors knew a great deal, conveying that knowledge to students was not always their forte. I found myself leading groups working on homework assignments and studying for tests. It was very natural when I became an official tutor for the physics department. I also became a lab instructor for our 1st year physics as well as Modern(20th century) physics. I've also tutored privately: high school calculus and physics.
Well, every student is different, so I guess I would have to call my teaching style adaptive. You can't teach a person anything until you learn how they learn. So that's exactly what I do. We figure out the best way for them to learn then I allow them to learn in the most natural way possible.

During my time at Florida State I completed a double major in Applied and Computational Mathematics & Philosophy. My study of mathematics has trained to me to become a patient and logical problem solver, while also providing me with experience in many areas of math that include: Advanced Calculus, Linear Algebra, Probability and Statistics, and Differential Equation, and others. Moreover, studying philosophy has strongly enhanced my ability to reason and write detailed analytic papers. During college I often aided fellow students on assignments in Math Modeling and Linear Algebra, and was also involved in tutoring students from FAMU in calculus. I work great with others, and can easily convey mathematical concepts to my peers.
I like to teach from a perspective that conveys material in an intuitive manner. I try to convey the concepts as I would have first understood them, removing ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Having attended both the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology (IIT) high school and their college program my academic foundation is extremely strong. After I graduated high school, I had my first experience in tutoring math through my own modest tutoring "business". My strength as a teacher grew while, at the IIT, I was certified as a tutor for my fellow students, in math & computer programming. I recently took the GRE math test and earned a perfect score. Given this achievement I have been able to tutor other people on how to achieve the best score they can on the math GRE. Currently, I am looking towards the future, in preparing to take the GRE math subject test, inorder to achieve a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics.
He, who loves a subject, loves to teach others to love it too! My passion for seeing the formulas and numbers come alive through teaching is clear. ... read more

I think it's a great feeling when you actually know you've taught something to a child and you can tell they will remember it for life. I still remember my friend's mom teaching me tricks to remember the multiplication tables, and I would like to be able to impact someone's life in the same way. I'm a fun person and I like to do things a little outside of the box. I would try to make the tutoring sessions something that the children would look forward to. I look forward to the challenge of making a difference.
To earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University Of Notre Dame, I had to be a Renaissance class-taker. Math, Science, and foreign language were all required for anyone to graduate. My major was Film, Television, and Theater, but many Literature and History classes were also all required. Writing is my strength, as I wrote and directed the school's biggest comedy show and ... read more
