I have been involved with learning and playing music for 25 years and have several years of theory training. I understand how music is put together and would love to share my knowledge with you. Your music your way. I enjoy and am familiar with many styles of music and would like to help you follow your passion. It's hard work to learn, but music should also be enjoyable and I aim to keep it that way. I started playing music in 5th grade with the clarinet and school band. I graduated 1st chair in high school band and was playing the guitar in jazz band. I've been playing the guitar for the last 20 years and played in my far share of bands. I love teaching children and being able to see them learn. It is awesome to see and hear when they finally "get it" or when they understand something that I taught them. Moreover, when a student gives you an answer to a question and uses an example of something that you taught them earlier, it really shows you how quickly they can pick things up. My teaching "style" is very open--I will have an outline and while I am presenting I will sometimes ask for examples from the students to help get us through the outline together. Since graduating from Northern Illinois University, I have had several experiences teaching children at the elementary and middle school age.
