Hello. I have been teaching for 23 years and tutoring in Spanish and other subjects for more than 10 years. I have worked both in private and public schools, and I am currently a public high school Spanish and ACT English and Reading teacher. Along with offering my in-school students extra help, I have tutored and taught private lessons to students ranging from Pre-K to adults. I believe the first step in academic success is building self esteem and confidence. Learning should be engaging and fun. My students come to enjoy learning and gaining confidence as they grow and become better readers. I have taught first through third grades for many years. Most of my experience is with elementary students. I now work with principals and teachers across the state to improve classroom instruction. I have also worked specifically with third graders to prepare them for the State Test. Each summer I am involved with the Read to Succeed camp where I work with students who have not passed the third grade end of the year test. To develop a level of independent and automatic phonetic ability, I focus my instruction primary on phonics instructions that help beginning and struggling readers understand how letters are linked to sounds (phonemes) to form letter-sound correspondences and spelling patterns and to help them learn how to apply this knowledge in their reading. I am experienced in the Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts(ELA) for 3-8th Grade. I have provided basic reading sill, reading fluency, vocabulary and phonic instruction for struggling readers in grades 3rd-8th. I have taught in the public school system for thirty-four years.
