With a degree in Special Education and a Masters in Education I have learned about how children learn best. I have a Florida Teacher's License for teaching ESE (Exceptional Students Education), Spanish, Elementary Education, and other subjects. I taught in the Ocala public school system. I have terrific math skills and have taught all core courses to ESE students. I have helped older students prepare for their GED exam as well. Currently I teach Spanish online.

In 1976 I left the blue-collar world and returned to college, strongly motivated to learn. In 1980 I acquired a BA in Geography (3.81 gpa in my major, 3.53 overall), with a minor degree in Environmental Geology (3.6 gpa). During my last three years of undergraduate study I was the departmental tutor in Physical, Cultural and Economic Geography. Awarded a teaching assistantship at the University of Maryland Graduate School (College Park) in 1980, I taught undergraduate courses in Geography for two years. For most of my professional career, I was a senior financial administrator in the non-profit sector. After receiving my Doctorate in 2002, I moved from an Administrative position to a Faculty position at the University of Massachusetts. For the past 8 years, I have worked as a professor of Accounting and Finance at a variety of universities and colleges. I was the valedictorian of my graduating high school class and one of the top high school math and science students in the nation, but I was not always a stellar student. For instance, I received a “D” in math in the second grade. I attribute my transformation to an "A" student at least partially to my third grade teacher in whose class my math grades improved dramatically and I jumped from the lowest to the highest reading group. She helped boost my confidence, made me feel like I could actually do better, and made me excited about learning. Once they feel that I care, they open up and the learning really begins!
