I worked for the Washington State Department of Natural Resources for 14 years as an Endangered Species Research Scientist. I have extensive experience in science, math, technical writing, computer programming, and database management. For the last 18 months I have been laid off and enjoying parenting my 2 children who are 11 and 7. What strikes me most as I look back at my education is how much of an impact a teacher can have when they make their subject relevant to their students. When I am teaching I try to find out what motivates each student as a person, in addition to what is motivating them to take the class. My goal is to find a way to present the material in such a way that the experience of learning is a journey of meaningful discovery that corresponds to the course content.
While completing my BS in engineering, I spent two years tutoring math, physics, and optics. During my senior year I was also able to teach a portion of two terms of the freshman optics class. I have been interested in education my entire life. After receiving my B.A. from Penn State University, I was an elementary teacher in my hometown, Oxford, Pennsylvania. This experience ignited a spark in me to continue my education. I received an M.A. and Ed.D in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University. More recently, I was a student at Western Washington University in their elementary teacher certification program. I place a high value on practical education. I graduated high school at the top of my class and received my AA degree just a few of months later- all while working full-time. I then obtained my BA in Organizational Management and I am now in a local graduate degree program. Because of my heavy workload I was able to develop effective and efficient study methods. Here is Some Good Information About Florida Writes Tutoring

The Florida Writing Assessment was implemented in grades 4, 8, and 10 as required by a law passed by the 1990 legislature. Does your student need a tutor? Beginning in 2010, each essay was scored by one rater. In previous years, two raters were used and the scores were averaged. Prior to 2010, a student could have received a half-point score, such as 4.5; whereas since 2010, no half-point scores are possible. Additionally, beginning in 2010, each student within the same grade level was required to write an essay using the same mode of writing (narrative, expository, or persuasive).
