I worked for the Washington State Department of Natural Resources for 14 years as an Endangered Species Research Scientist. I have extensive experience in science, math, technical writing, computer programming, and database management. For the last 18 months I have been laid off and enjoying parenting my 2 children who are 11 and 7. A Little Bit About Me...

What strikes me most as I look back at my education is how much of an impact a teacher can have when they make their subject relevant to their students. When I am teaching I try to find out what motivates each student as a person, in addition to what is motivating them to take the class. My goal is to find a way to present the material in such a way that the experience of learning is a journey of meaningful discovery that corresponds to the course content.
While completing my BS in engineering, I spent two years tutoring math, physics, and optics. During my senior year I was also able to teach a portion of two terms of the freshman optics class. During the last four years I have worked as an aerospace engineer, and as a private contractor. A Little Bit About Me...

As a regular classroom teacher, I felt hampered due to class size. I was never satisfied connecting with just a few students. Every student was important to me. I realized that the only way for me to really reach students was by reducing the teacher-student ratio. As a tutor, I found that teaching smaller groups of students or one-on-one was for me. Using this style, I feel strongly that students learn more, particularly at home. Students are much more comfortable at home which creates an excellent environment for learning. Learning is a joyful experience and students have a better chance of tapping into their potential.
