While working as a Designer at Boeing Aerospace I taught freshman level technical courses at Butler County Community College in El Dorado, Kansas. I taught there from 1993 thru 1999. My classes included drafting, design, basic 2D AutoCAD, shop math, shop safety & general manufacturing practices. When teaching in a classrom environment I prefer to divide the class time between lecture and practice. When tutoring I use a sumwhat different approach. I first will have the student show me how they think they are supposed to approach the problem. When teaching a math lesson I begin by going over skills already mastered that lead to the lesson at hand. After teaching the new material I then have the student try a similar problem while I watch. If necessary I coach them along, pointing out any problem areas. Then I require the student to try more of the same type of problems until he or she has mastered the new material.
