Coming from a family with no prior college education, I made it a point to not only graduate from a four-year university but to work as hard as I could to be the best at what I do. I accomplished what I have set out to do by graduating with a degree at both institutes I attended with a GPA above 3.0. I have tutored my younger brother for several years in the four major subjects. I also worked in high school as a teaching aid for a 4th grade class at Jefferson Elementary School and actually taught math and science to the class. My passion is teaching mathematics. After a single year of retirement I missed teaching so much that I now either teach or tutor at three locations. In the classroom I have a casual, informal style that is more like a conversation with my students than a formal lecture. After presenting a problem for students to analyze and solve, my most common tactic is to ask a series of scaffolded (rather than Socratic) questions-designed to lead students to their own method to resolve the situation. I have been a teacher for 13 years. I started out in Huntsville, Alabama as a substitute teacher for grades K-12. I was a title I teacher for 2 years with 7th and 8th grade and 2nd grade. I was a classroom teacher for 4 years at Rolling Hills Elementary School. I was a 5th grade teacher for 2 years and a 1st grade teacher for 2 years. I then moved to Bay County, Florida. I taught 4 years in Bay County. I taught 5th grade for 2 years, 1st and 2nd grade. My last teaching position was at Breakfast Point Academy.
