Very much based on working with what the student knows. I tend to start by having them explain to me what they are doing and what they think. I then provide some guidance and walk through a sample problem with them. I ask that they try another problem like it on their own and ask questions to prompt them as they work.
I started tutoring in high school for extra credit. I have primarily tutored in mathematics and general chemistry! Math is important to everyone...so is music.

I find that mathematics instruction is greatly improved by visual aid. I found that my most effective teaching tools were the white board and marker rather than the computer or calculator (although those are useful as well). I have also been able to adapt my teaching style to the learning styles of my students, whether they enjoy learning math or not. As for the saxophone, I believe that throughout a musicians instruction, a good balance between fundamentals such as scales and technical exercises, and repertoire such as solos and duets, is very important.

My teaching style revolves around how the child learns. I adapt my lesson's around how the child will be able to best learn the material. I want to see them grow and develop as much as they can.
I am now a teacher at a private school in Monona. I help aid a Preschool classroom and have my own classroom in the afternoon for students age four. I also run an after school program once the school day is done with and that incorporates 4 year-olds to seventh graders. I help students out with homework during that time. Before I started my teaching job, I was substituting in Madison and Verona Area School Districts. My comments on tutoring Algebra II : I'm not a math person - but then again, neither are you, right? I can teach you how to work through algebra as one non-math person to another.
