My comments on tutoring GED: Math portion only!

Very much based on working with what the student knows. I tend to start by having them explain to me what they are doing and what they think. I then provide some guidance and walk through a sample problem with them. I ask that they try another problem like it on their own and ask questions to prompt them as they work. I started tutoring in high school for extra credit. I have primarily tutored in mathematics and general chemistry! I tutored a girl in Algebra 1 for a year, helped my best friend and her Mom with college mathematics, and worked through college algebra with my husband. In college I was a teachers assistant for general chemistry 1 and tutored in quantitative chemical analysis. Since then I have tutored a gentlemen for the math portion of his GED. Basically, I love the one-on-one opportunity to help people to find that "light-bulb moment" where the math and science is no longe ... read more

I prefer to have materials prepared prior to any tutoring session so communication ahead of time will be essential. If I have an idea of what is expected of me then I am able to help modify the session to fit the learner. I like to use both direct teach as well as discussion to help guide the tutoring session. I have a wide variety of educational experience and have recently crossed over into the realm of education as a Special Education/At-Risk teacher with the Edgerton School District. My current position has me utilizing differentiated instruction and modification techniques with nearly 50 students throughout the day which will enhance my ability to tutor others who need help. My particular areas of expertise are Social Studies, Spanish, English and ASVAB/GED test prep. I am weaker in Math and Science.

While obtaining my B.S. I tutored through a community development after school program for a year; in which I helped 4th-8th graders with their math and reading homework. For the past 3 years I have worked as a private math and science tutor helping student from 5th grade up through college level. In the Spring of 2011&2012 I worked as an in-school tutor bringing elementary school students up to grade level in math and reading. These past 2 years, I worked online as a Math, and English tutor through various services. years and In terms of online tutoring. I make use of a headset microphone and a touch tablet. I enjoy helping people find and understand information. When teaching, I like to encourage my students to find their own path and reasoning to the answer. I encourage supervised and structured trial and error where the student tries different methods to finding the answer. This nurtures the excitement of discovery and the joy of learning something new. First, I am a life long learner and love reading. I have a masters in Library Science and have worked for the past 2 years as a reference librarian where I frequently answered questions, worked with patrons one on one, taught ACT prep and computer classes. Previous to working at the public library, I volunteered tutoring elementary and high school students in grammar, composition, and mathematics.

Having my bachelor degree in English and Philosophy, I have been given a unique understanding towards how to ask questions to make people think about the material they're reading, and what questions the material is trying to ask. Supporting this is my background as a writing center assistant at college which not only offered me the chance to improve my own work, but, also to learn how to guide frustrated students without giving in to the temptation to do the work for them. During this past year, I have worked with second and third generation Chinese children, teaching English, math, art and science on a first grade level. I believe that children want to learn and discover things about the world, and my goal as an educator is to foster that curiosity and channel it towards classroom subjects by a more holistic style of teaching that incorporates personal interests with the standard educ

Cumulatively, including extended substitute teaching situations, I have taught all grade levels 1-12 in various subjects. I would describe my teaching style as ecclectic. By this I mean that I discern which style or strategy would best accomdodate the needs of the particular child, based on their learning style. Once the child's learning style is distinguished, I would tailor my lessons/tutoring to that particular style. Throughout college, I consistently worked as a tutor or mentor, specifically with minority populations. Upon graduation, I joined Teach for America and taught high school English in rural North Carolina. Since my tenure in TFA, I have taught English to students in Mexico, substitue taught for 2 years at a Waldorf school in La Crosse, WI, and currently tutor and mentor students as I attend graduate school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

I am known for my creative teaching style, and work to actively engage a student on their level and then bring them up to their highest potential. I apply an organized and clearly constructive approach to learning, and believe that making lessons as interesting as possible is key. As I've worked with many learning styles, I've come to see that the hands-on approach (global kinesthetic) , or "doing' is most affective. I love teaching, and want my student(s) to feel comfortable in asking questions, asking for clarification, and practicing skills. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a voracious love of learning. Every subject in the Humanities held a fascination for me, and to this day, I read two books a week, write, draw, and study educational Psychology. years after my graduation, i earned my Secondary Teacher of E

I love teaching and working with all children. I believe all children can learn, but each in different ways. I believe all children can meet their potential if they are given the appropriate surroundings and learning experiences. I am a firm believer in teaching through discovery and in providing a constructivist approach to learning (children generate knowledge and meaning from their experiences). I am available to help your child find academic success in any area of learning. I am patient, easy going, and considerate. My goal is to provide the best education possible. I strive to make a difference in all of my students' lives. A few good educators can make a world of difference in a child's education. As a High Honors graduate in Early Childhood Education, I was very much driven to achieve a high level of excellence in education. I have earned two degrees, BS in Business Administratio

As a high school student I participated in peer tutoring. While in high school I volunteered to serve as a tutor in Algebra, Geometry, Chemistry, Zoology, and Biology. I graduated with 27 AP credits which helped me complete a B.S. at Clarke College in 3 years. At Clarke I found that tutoring my peers helped both the student and me. As a biology major at Clarke College I took many courses in science including biology, chemistry, and physics. Clarke is a liberal arts college so I took a variety of courses including English and History. At Clarke I tutored peers in many classes such as Human Biology, General Chemistry, and Elementary Physics. I also revised and edited papers along with providing topics and direction to written works. I started tutoring people because it seemed like a great way to meet different people, but I continued because I like helping people learn and discover new thi

I love watching and learning from children. I believe that learning is closely related to confidence. I like to take the time to get to know children and understand what they like so that I can better understand how their brain works and how they process information. In understanding what they like, this gives me the ability to let them show me something new. The best way that I retained information in college was to teach someone else what I was studying. As the children learn the new information, I like to have them show me the new information the same way they did their hobby or interest. I graduated from UW-Stevens Point with a degree in a Communication and a passion for enriching the youth in our community. Throughout my educational career I was always involved with a youth organization as either a Big Sister, basketball coach or a junior achievement volunteer. A full summer
