Experience Summary
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a voracious love of learning. Every subject in the Humanities held a fascination for me, and to this day, I read two books a week, write, draw, and study educational Psychology. years after my graduation, i earned my Secondary Teacher of English License at Edgewood College. My finance and I moved to Saint Louis, where I was recruited to teach "at risk" Secondary English, ESL, and Reading for the Los Angeles Unified School District. I also worked with them as a Drug IMPACT II Counselor, and gained real insight into Alternative Education. During this time, I tutored several students with Reading Comprehension difficulties.
Currently, I am Certified Substitute Teacher and Para Professional (Regular and Students with Disabilities) with the Middleton Cross- Plains School District. Through these positions I've gained more valuable experience working with a diverse group of students in a multicultural setting. This summer I will complete course work in order to renew my Secondary English Teacher License.
Teaching Style
I am known for my creative teaching style, and work to actively engage a student on their level and then bring them up to their highest potential. I apply an organized and clearly constructive approach to learning, and believe that making lessons as interesting as possible is key. As I've worked with many learning styles, I've come to see that the hands-on approach (global kinesthetic) , or "doing' is most affective. I love teaching, and want my student(s) to feel comfortable in asking questions, asking for clarification, and practicing skills.
