A Little Bit About Me...

As an undergraduate student at both my junior college and university, I was inspired to spread the joy of learning and understanding English. I have earned a BA in Global Studies and Maritime Affairs, which has enabled me to expand my knowledge base about international affairs and the maritime industry. This coming March I will graduate with a MS degree in Emergency Management. This degree has given me a fantastic background in understanding leadership and management techniques. During the past four to five years I have been employed as an English tutor by both the College of the Redwoods and the California Maritime Academy.

My style is relaxed. Many students appear frightened of math at first. I cover each subject well, allowing students to ask many questions. I encourage students to work problems while I watch, so I can catch them at the moment they make a mistake. I love teaching students of all ages, in basic math, algebra, statistics, and calculus. I have gotten feedback from students, indicating how much they appreciated my instruction... living for seeing the light come on in a student's eyes.
As a psychology major, at the beginning of my education, I discovered that I had a love and talent for mathematics. Thus I pursued a dual degree in Psychology and Math. I graduated from university in the top 2% of my graduating class, then went on to earn a masters in Comparative Literature. The Pennsylvania State University awarded my a graduate teaching fellowship for the duration of my masters studies. This fellowship allowed me to teach two college level courses in world literature, English composition and rhetoric, and French. In 2005, I moved to Hawaii to take a full time job as a language arts instructor at a well known private school. I taught there for four years and headed the deparment during my last year. While teaching high school, I also tutored and taught community college writing courses.
