I was a very shy child, and have been able to find comfort within to obtain success in not only the classroom, but in life. I am good at drawing students out of their shell, and figuring out how they can be most comfortable with academics to benefit the most from their education. I believe that my success in a tutoring situation is as dependent on the student’s style of learning as it is on my method of tutoring. I recognize not everyone learns the same way. I am a believer of asking the student where they are struggling and what they feel the problem is, so I can mold the tutoring session to best benefit him, or her, based on personality and comfort. My greatest joy as a tutor and professor is to witness the "Ah-ha" moment when the light bulb comes on and the student puts the pieces together and comes to understand the topic, and, perhaps more importantly, understands the significance or ramifications of the topic in relation to other topics or disciplines. As the “Ah-ha” moments add up a student’s confidence grows. Ultimately, this confidence in learning is what I am trying to achieve.
