I have a very creative teaching style...I like to help students think outside of the box. Utilizing real life situations to apply to mathematics and business curriculm. I enjoy substitute teaching and seeing students in todays society apply technology to their learning.
I have been a tutor at the Boys and Girls Club here in decatur for three years. During undergraduate i was a math tutor for two years. For the last year I have been a substitute teacher at the Decatur Public Schools. I have a bachelors degree in business and a MBA from Benedictine University.

I was a very shy child, and have been able to find comfort within to obtain success in not only the classroom, but in life. I am good at drawing students out of their shell, and figuring out how they can be most comfortable with academics to benefit the most from their education. I believe that my success in a tutoring situation is as dependent on the student’s style of learning as it is on my method of tutoring. I recognize not everyone learns the same way. I am a believer of asking the student where they are struggling and what they feel the problem is, so I can mold the tutoring session to best benefit him, or her, based on personality and comfort. My greatest joy as a tutor and professor is to witness the "Ah-ha" moment when the light bulb comes on and the student puts the pieces together and comes to understand the topic, and, perhaps more importantly, understands the significance or ramifications of the topic in relation to other topics or disciplines. As the “Ah-ha” moments add up a student’s confidence grows. Ultimately, this confidence in learning is what I am trying to achieve. I have 25 years experience in the civil engineering field, specifically the water resources area. I started substitute teaching at both the Lincoln Community High School and Hartem School District in 2009. I also started tutoring for Lincoln College in the Academic Success Center, last year. I tutor biology, chemistry, but especially math of all levels ... including statistics and geometry. I have been tutoring math from beginning basic math through advanced calculus and statistics at Lincoln College for the past 2 semesters. I have also been substitute teaching at Hartem Elementary and High School; and Lincoln Community High School for the past 2 semesters.
