A Little Bit About Me...

I am passionate about teaching and learning, and I love all people. I am an advocate of task-based learning, multiple intelligences, and the all-around inductive/constructivist approach to learning. I am a firm believer in the idea that all people have the same innate capacity to learn, but that this is manifested in different ways. This is particularly important because I beleive a good teacher should be able to discover the individual and specific ways that a student relates or acquires information best (visually, aurally, kinesthetically etc.) and can then take that information and develop appropriate excercises and teaching materials to help maximize that student's learning experience. Different teaching styles are needed for different learning styles, and I will accomodate as necessary.

If someone would pay me to be a student, I could continue going to school for my whole life. I love to learn and come from a family of teachers. My award for service learning integrated information from the fields of Education and Sociology to improve learning opportunities for abused children. I have extensive experience writing and editing through professional training (BA in Journalism) and experience (various editing projects). I have a Bachelor's degree in English Writing from the University of Nevada, Reno, and am currently in the process of applying to graduate school for Creative Writing. During the past year, I have tutored part-time as a writing tutor through the in-home tutoring company Study Buddies. Recently, I have had work published in the University of Nevada's "Brushfire" literary magazine and the Nevada Historical Society's archive. In October of 2006, I presented at the annual Buster Keaton Conference in Iola, Kansas.
