My goal in studying linguistics is to become a professional ESL teacher. I am very much interested in language development at all levels, but especially in nonnative language development. I am a native speaker of English, but I am also fluent in Spanish as well. I love to teach and learn language. I am a professional student currently enrolled in a master of arts program for applied linguistics at the University of Montana. I will be teaching a course in English for Academic Purposes next year at the university. As a life-long student, I aspire to a life of teaching. While an undergraduate at St. Olaf College, I developed strong communication and interpersonal skills as a writing center tutor and ESL mentor. I teach by example, leading the student through a problem by asking questions about each step so that they can learn how to approach the problem themselves. I watch and evaluate the students as they work and provide guidence when thy make errors. I enjoy interacting with children of all ages and I do so in a kind and curteous manner.
