A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from Mount Union College in May 2006 with a BA in History and a double minor in Adoloescent to Young Adult Education and American Studies. Throughout high school I was a teacher's assistant helping with students in class during my study halls as well as working one on one with students for extra study skills. In the past few years I have tutored students in elemtary math, middle school reading and writing, and even my own students before and after school in social studies. I love working with children. I believe that all children can learn, but each child learns in a different way. In order to help a student, you must find out how they learn. You also must find their passion. With this information (passion and learning style), you can help any student succeed. Many of my students have been considered as slow, but once I began working with them, I realized that they just lacked the basic skills. This past year, all of my students have increased at least one grade level in reading and math. Many have achieved grade level performance.

A Little Bit About Me...

Though I have no official experience as a tutor, being the oldest of three children there was always an oppurtunity to help with homework. I like to teach using visual examples and being patient to allow the student to work at a pace they are comfortable with. As a second career I wanted to put something back into my community. So as I went back to school a few years ago to complete my MBA, I thought that I wanted to teach in public schools. I was a non-traditional teacher. I therefore had to work as a substitute teacher and as a tutor because I am not yet certified. So I worked as Coach(Academic K-12)and I enjoy it. As soon as I can I will get certified, but tutoring is a wonderful way to learn how to teach and interact.
