Don A. - Rotonda West, FL 33947 (11.3 mi) - SAT - Math Tutor - $47.50/hr.
My experience, (both academic and work)has been widely varied, ranging from research and engineering to financial management in a corporate environment, followed by golf course design and landscape management. In addition I used my experience in construction and woodworking to build and market patio furniture. Unfortunately the housing depression of the mid 2000's caused the business to be non profitable and was closed. Since 2005 I have been semi retired and used my construction experience to work at a lumber and hardware store. One on one or group. Lessons taught, homework assigned, then follow up of homework assignment.

Alfred C. - Cape Coral, FL 33990 (14.6 mi) - SAT - Math Tutor - $20.00/hr.
My old next door neighbors have two children. One is a boy in elementary and one is a girl in middle school.
I tutored the boy in reading and writing. He was able to read his first book on his own after a few weeks with me.
I had to tutor the girl in math. she was taking algebra and was having a tough time with it. In two weeks of many meetings, she was able to pass her final exam.
No matter what grade I was in, I always enjoyed going down to the ESE room and helping the special kids. I did what ever I could to help.

George B. - Venice, FL 34292 (24.6 mi) - SAT - Math Tutor - $27.50/hr.
My major complaint with the current pedagogy of STEM fields is there focus on teaching students to be able to produce answers so a slew of canned and frankly uninteresting problem sets. There is so much interesting literature, philosophy, and history in the fields of science and physics that it makes very little sense to muddle with these less helpful and dull techniques and problems. Physics and math education has become so perforated with cliche that shows like Cosmos and the elegant universe can become hits by just regurgitating the same buzz-theories (Schrodinger's cat, Black holes, the multiverse etc.) in the same, cloddish language (space-time is 'warped' and twisted, quantum 'weirdness', etc). This lack of original language and analogy is not a semantical issue; it's suggestive of the philistine cleaving of the sciences from the arts and it's very disturbing -- these truly awesome

Edward C. - La Belle, FL 33935 (36.4 mi) - SAT - Math Tutor - $35.00/hr.
I have done private tutoring of high school students in math from pre-algebra to calculus and in other subjects. I have also home schooled adopted daughters from lower grades to high school level, including teaching English as a second language. In graduate school I was a teaching assistant in an electric machinery laboratory for non-electrical engineering majors. My own experience with standardized tests includes having taken the ACT in 1971 with scores ranging from 22 (76th percentile) in English to 31 (97th percentile) in math with a composite of 27 (93rd percentile) and having passed the GRE in 1975.
Other previous experience includes 34 years experience as a communication system engineer. This experience includes satellite communications and other communications for the US military, NASA, FAA, and commercial customers. Antennas and radio propagation were special areas of profe

I have been working in education for the previous 9 years and have worked with students in all grade levels including K-12, college, and adult learners. My experiences include teaching college level courses, substitute teaching in grade school, and in home private tutoring. I believe that all students can be successful if some one is able to teach them in the way that they learn the best.

I love teaching all ages, nearly all subjects. I understand that everyone has different styles of learning. When teaching to a group, ideally all styles would be touched on (auditory, visual, hands-on). When working one-on-one, though, it is possible to teach towards that individual's particular style of learning. This works so much better than a one-size-fits-all method of teaching. If one way of teaching isn't working, I search for a different approach, until I find one that works. I try to explain concepts using ideas and terms that the student is familiar with. This allows the student to relate new concepts to already familiar ones, which helps it 'stick' better. I love 'aha' or 'lightbulb' moments - it makes it all worthwhile! After graduating from college with my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, I taught a year of Sp. Ed.,at the elementary level. I returned to school and e

I have always seen math in a different way then those around me and have always been able to help others see the problems in a different light to better understand it. I take pride in my ability to help others understand even when they believe it will be hopeless All through school I had an advanced understanding of math and i enjoyed helping others better understand it, for the past 5 years i have been offering tutoring to those in need. I have great understanding in everything up to and including statistics, algebra II, and some calculus.

My teaching experience has been both formal and informal. I’ve been a teaching assistant to college undergraduates, an instructor in management studies and also an instructor for dog obedience classes (you’re really teaching the owner, not the dog).
My informal experience has been with my kids, helping them with homework and as a scout den leader and a coach for baseball and softball, and now with my grandkids. In my professional life, I brought new products and services to market which involved educating and orienting individuals and groups through demonstrating and teaching opportunities. My teaching style is best described as adaptive. We all learn differently, some more so by doing, others by seeing or listening, and others by thinking it through. Learning is a combination of processes, emphasizing what works best.
For me, the approach is to use what works best for the st

The definition of success varies from person to person, from situation to situation, from school to school, from goal to goal. A success story that I am proud to repeat to all who will listen occurred during the 2003-2004 school year. I had a group of 50 awnery, rambunctious, and extremely diverse eighth graders. These eighth graders were highly motivated. Unfortunately they were not motivated in the area of English, or responsibility, dependability, perseverance, or respect. Though these students had an abundance of creativity, knowledge, and ability, they lacked the focus and direction to use it TOWARD their education rather than AGAINST it.
Through a lot of modeling, practice, encouragement, praise, and I'll admit, a lot of begging at times, these students began to become self-advocates for their own education. They began clearly seeing their education as an investment

As an Engineer major, I am interested in math and science in particular. I carried a 3.85 GPA throughout college, and earned a Golden Key International Honor Society award. I believe that working hard to achieve the top grades of your class will make you successful, and a good student. I enjoy working with children of all ages. I enjoy children who can appreciate being challenged, wanting to learn, and children who truly want to succeed. I always strive for the best. I believe anyone can meet their potential if they are willing and able to put the time, effort, and sacrifice into what they need.

I believe that knowledge is one of the most important facet in developing a successful life. One of my favorite joys is to see another person learn something new and to make use of that knowledge in his life or career. Without education one is severely handicapped in the development of becoming a complete person. Education is the key. Realizing that people are all different, I am flexible in my teaching methods, slowing down or speeding up my delivery and/or the complexity of the material with each student. I believe that course development should be goal-oriented so that when the student progresses to successful completion of that goal, there is a sense of achievement. I served 20 years in the Navy, and during that period earned my BS Degree. Many of my assignments were in development and institution of training programs including Equal Opportunity/Race Relations, Leadership and Managem

Sheila M - North Port, FL 34290 (20.9 mi) - SAT - Math Tutor - $36.50/hr.
My teaching style varied depending on the students abilities in my classes. When whole group or direct instruction was needed, I utilized it; if hands-on instruction was needed, I utilized that strategy. I am a firm believer that using a multi-sensory approach is the way to go in any instrucitonal program. Since all children learn differently, then the use of different modalities to deliver instruction will benefit more children. Most of all, patience is required. Because no matter what strategy and mode of instruction used, patience and guidance is needed for the child to achieve to his potential I worked for as a teacher in a New York city high school for 10 years and as Assistant Principal of Mathematics for 15 years. I've now retired and moved to North Port. During the early onset of my teaching career I tutored privately at my home many students ranging from grade 3 to college mat
