My comments on tutoring Science : I am a special education teacher who has taught and provided services within this subject area for students between K-8th grade.

I have several years of experience working in the field of education. My primary role has been as a K-8 special education teacher. I have worked in various capacities in this position, including co-teaching middle school English, providing resource support to first-grade students, and serving as a K-2 autism teacher. In addition to my classroom experience, I have tutored several clients with ADHD/ADD and specific learning disabilities in reading, math, and study skills. I believe in taking a casual approach in tutoring. From previous experience, I have found that many times students understand the material but tend to get flustered in a classroom environment. I provide guidance when needed, but sometimes students just need someone there to talk it out with them. If this is the case I like to ask questions until they find the answers themselves. This method not only teaches them the material, but also builds confidence because they realize they can figure out much of it themselves.
I worked for Kankakee Community College for one year as a Math and Spanish tutor in 2006 and 2007. From my experience of working the Math Lab at ICC, I have noticed that for some students, math is a rather difficult subject to them. Therefore, I always try to make sure my students understand everything I'm explaining and I always ask them for feedbacks so I know that they clearly understand everything. I always go over and review the materials I have taught/explained to the students so if there are any shady areas, I make sure I go over and expalin it again. My goal in being a math tutor is to help other students understand as much as I do.
