My comments on tutoring Science : I am a special education teacher who has taught and provided services within this subject area for students between K-8th grade.

I have several years of experience working in the field of education. My primary role has been as a K-8 special education teacher. I have worked in various capacities in this position, including co-teaching middle school English, providing resource support to first-grade students, and serving as a K-2 autism teacher. In addition to my classroom experience, I have tutored several clients with ADHD/ADD and specific learning disabilities in reading, math, and study skills. A Little Bit About Me...

I worked for Kankakee Community College for one year as a Math and Spanish tutor in 2006 and 2007. During this year, I honed the mathematics I learned through high school as well as the four years of Spanish I had taken to that point. After a year, my classes conflicted with my tutoring schedule but I still wanted to help fellow students so I started independently tutoring. After a year of doing so, I went on hiatus to focus on my final two semesters which centered around extensive lab work as well as research writing.
I believe in taking a casual approach in tutoring. From previous experience, I have found that many times students understand the material but tend to get flustered in a classroom environment. Every student is different, therefore every student has different needs. Every student also can learn differently, whether it be by incorporating more or less visual learning strategies, auditory learning strategies, or using more of the "hands on" approach. A Little Bit About Me...

I have two kids and I understand how kids can sometimes struggle in school. I love to simplify the subjects to them. I also work on self confidence issues. A lot of kids struggle because the lack of confidence. I work closely with kids and make them feel comfortable so they can response better. I believe in repetitions. A Little Bit About Me...

Based on my past teaching experiences, I have learned that in order to motivate students to learn, it’s imperative to make connections between the curriculum and their prior experiences and interests. I believe that it is unrealistic to expect students to learn at the same rate and have identical learning styles, so teachers must differentiate their instruction to account for all types of learning abilities, levels, interests, and talents. For instance, teachers should be able and willing to plan lessons and/or assessments that allow students to utilize their own individual and unique intelligences, such as perhaps music or art.
