My teaching style depends upon the learning style of the student. For example, if the student is a visual learner then the student is taught using pictures, books, charts, etc. Or if the student is an auditory learner then the student is taught orally with pictures, books, charts used as supports. As a special needs teacher I individualized lessons for students.
I have 27 years of special needs teaching experience. I have taught students in all grade levels. I taught at the elementary level (K-6th) for 14 years; at the junior high level (7th-8th) for 3 years and at the high school level (9th-12th) for 10 years. My strength is teaching basic skills (reading and math) and organizational/study skills and helping students to realize their individual potential.

I love to teach and see the light go on in a child's head as he or she begins to understand. It is a great joy to see them succeed. I am creative, compassionate, and caring, and will do everything I can to find the "missing pieces" for struggling students. Often, students have been rushed through the basic manipulative/hands-on discovery phase of learning, and have had to memorize rules in order to move on instead of truly understanding. I starting my first year of teaching Terreton Junior high and elementary. I was a special ed teacher there I taught kids from k-8 and I taught a special algebra class for 7th graders. I really enjoyed working with algebra it not only helped them to understand it, it helped me understand it also. The next year a taught autistic children in Ammon elementary school. It was a great learning expierence.

A Little Bit About Me...

Throughout college I had extensive experience working with classmates while we solved math equations and physics problems together. I did volunteer work teaching English to children in Mexico as well as teaching English to college age students in Mexico.
I like to first get an idea of what the student knows about the problem.. I find that the more time I spend listening to what they know it naturally turns into what pieces I need to add-in. Unless they came to the session to learn new material that would be a different scenario entirely in which it would depend on the student how I taught. I would have to find out what type of a learner they are. Whether it be a visual learner, if they need examples or are an entirely conceptual type of learner.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching children math because so many seem to struggle in this area, especially in confidence. I believe when given the chance of success in math, all children can gain the confidence needed to successfully accomplish the needed requirements by themselves in the future. I believe math is learned when it is made into real-life experiences and also when it is performed numerous times.
I have a bachelor degree in Civil Engineering but because of my love of math, I took several advanced math courses in college and almost graduated with a minor in math. A Little Bit About Me...

It was a drive within my nature or inner self to pursue a course in Child Development and Family Relations and a minor in Psychology as I attended college at Ricks College and Brigham Young University. My direction following those events led me to teach as an assistant teacher and then as a classroom teacher at a private school working with the young children in Preschool and Kindergarten. I had a son with some special needs. I had to help him with his math throughout most of his junior high and high school years. From time to time, other students in my neighborhood have asked for assistance with their school studies. Assisting them when needed is something I have done several times over the years.
