As an art and writing student, I realize that many kids learn differently, and I try to approach each situation as a unique situation. As a writing consultant what I loved hearing about was when students became more confident and improved to the point of independence. I enjoy tutoring those who are in Middle School or High school. I feel as though they tend to have a higher capacity for sustaining attention. Those are unique ages that can really build a foundation for later education. I believe that one-on-one time is essential in learning. Some people might learn well in a large group, but others learn much better when time is spent on explaing specific details. I find the most enjoyment when a tutee finally links the core concept and is able to solve more difficult problems on their own.

I have a BS in Math with a History minor. I worked about 30 years for Huntington Bank, including 10 years as a main frame computer programmer/manager. I also worked as a senior manager for a national computer outsourcing company and, most recently as an insurance agent, a notary public and the owner/operator of a retail shipping store. I recently relocated to SW Michigan. With the urging of family and friends and a personal desire to be involved in a meaningful activity, I want to resume tutoring students in math.
