My approach is simple: assess the student's academic weaknesses, review the strengths, then teach the new material in order to bridge the content or skill. "Scaffolding" is the best means by which to teach so that the student understands the significance of the lesson. Too often, teachers play sage-on-stage, thereby neglecting to connect what the student already knows with the new material.
I am a credential-holding elementary school teacher with experience ranging from Kindergarten through 6th grade. All children have the ability to learn, however some children simply need to be taught in a different way. In law school I am a teaching assistant and my favorite part about working with students is finding out what a student's learning style is.
